Orientation · Choose the right product

What is the difference between a roller banner and a pop-up display?

A roller banner is a single graphic that pulls vertically out of a weighted cassette base, typically 850mm wide by 2000mm tall, set up in 30 seconds by one person. A pop-up display is a modular wall of magnetic or fabric panels on a folding aluminium frame, scaling from 1×3 to 4×3 metres, that forms the backdrop of an exhibition stand.

Roller bannerThe single pull-up

One graphic. One cassette. One person setting up in thirty seconds. Best for the moments where a brand wall would be overkill.

Pop-up displayThe modular wall

Folding aluminium frame. Fabric or magnetic panels. From a desk-side 1×3 up to a 4×3 island booth backdrop.

The pick depends on the room. One pull up banner does the job at a small conference, a launch event, a foyer reveal, a pop-up shop, or a single-bay registration desk. A pop up display does the job behind a booth, on an island stand, or wherever you need a continuous brand wall longer than two metres. A pop up banner is what most clients mean when they ring for "a stand", but if the brief mentions an exhibition booth or a wall, it is the pop-up system you want.

Most of the file-spec errors we catch at the counter come from this confusion. Customers send 2000mm-wide artwork meant for a pop-up panel as a roll up banner spec, or the other way round. We check the file before we print, but it saves an hour to know which one you actually want. For wall-mounted single sheets see our poster printing page.

Materials

Which banner material should I choose?

PVC for indoor and shelter, fabric for premium booth feel, mesh for any outdoor or marquee use. The wrong pick is the most common file-spec error we catch at the counter. Choose by the room, not by the price.

Curved dye-sub fabric pop-up display under trade-show lighting, City Images
  • PVC is the indoor default. We print on 300 to 440 micron HP latex stock, lay-flat, light-block, ready to roll up the moment it leaves the press. Colour holds to under 2 dE against Pantone references. The cassette protects the bottom 80 to 100mm of artwork from foot traffic. PVC outdoors in a March gust will fail. Choose mesh.

  • Fabric is polyester, dye-sub printed, washable, with a premium hand-feel for exhibition booths and high-end retail. The cure runs overnight, so fabric is next-day, not same-day. Fabric clips magnetically to our pop-up display systems for a continuous edge-to-edge wall, and holds up under hot trade-show lighting without flapping or shimmer.

  • Mesh is the only material that survives wind. The weave passes air, so the banner stays standing in a marquee, on a launch terrace, or at any open-air event. Edge eyelets fit the cassette base, a support pole, or a custom frame. B1 fire-rated for venue compliance. For wider outdoor work see our large format printing page.

Same-day · 5pm cutoff

Can I get a roller banner printed today in London?

Send artwork by 5pm and we print, mount and have your banner ready for collection from our Mayfair or Camden studio that same afternoon, three hours later than the standard London cutoff. From £99. Same-day London courier and in-house install at ExCeL, Olympia, BDC and QEII Centre also available.

In-house install

What counts as same-day

A single banner on PVC or fabric, a graphic-only replacement that fits an existing cassette, or up to five identical prints from one clean file. Files clear, proof approved, print, finish, pack, ready for collection by 6pm at the latest, 6:30pm if the artwork check needs a small fix.

What we ship next-day instead

New frame builds requiring assembly time, multi-revision design jobs, fabric replacement panels for pop-up displays (the heat-press cure on dye-sub fabric runs overnight), and any job over five units that needs full QC. Tell us your deadline when you call. We will say yes or no straight, no soft promises.

Collection, courier, or install

Walk in to 8 Avery Row in Mayfair or 23-27 King's Terrace in Camden and collect with the file-check still warm. Book a same-day London courier on top, quoted per drop. Or, for exhibition work at ExCeL, Olympia, BDC, QEII Centre, RHS Halls or OXO Tower, our in-house fitters arrive at the venue with the printed graphics, build the stand, and leave it ready for your team. No sub-contracting. The same crew that printed the job installs the job.

Sizes

What size roller banners do you stock?

We stock six standard widths, every banner shipping from inventory, no waiting on materials. All roller banners are 2000mm tall as standard, with widths running from 800mm to 2000mm. The 800mm and 850mm widths are the working defaults for single-person stands, conference booths and foyers.

  • Tight-aisle conference stand, pop-up shop. The narrowest standard width — fits a single-person table-top or a registration desk without crowding.

  • Standard exhibition booth panel. The working default for most one-person stands and the size most clients mean when they ring for "a roller banner".

  • Lobby and large reception display. Wider canvas for hero imagery, multi-product launches, or a feature backdrop in a foyer.

  • Wide-format trade-show display. The point where the banner stops reading as a personal stand and starts working as part of a booth wall.

  • Multi-banner sequence anchor. The width that sits well as the centrepiece of a 3- or 5-banner run on an exhibition stand.

  • Large-booth statement banner. The widest standard roller banner we stock — a single graphic that reads as a wall in its own right.

Hardware & guarantees · What ships

What is included with each City Images banner?

Every roller banner ships with the printed graphic, the weighted cassette base, a top-clip rail, and a padded carry case. Hardware carries a lifetime guarantee. If the mechanism fails we re-make the stand at no charge. Free artwork check at either counter before we print.

Step-and-repeat logo wall printed by City Images at a central London hotel event venue

The carry case is padded canvas with a webbed handle rated to 8kg, sized to fit through a tube barrier. The cassette is the working bit. Inside is the recoil spring and the safe-area for your artwork. The bottom 80 to 100mm of any banner sits inside the cassette. Any text or logo lower than 100mm gets eaten by the base. We mark the cassette safe-area on the proof so you see it before we print, the single file error nobody else explains.

What walks out the door. One complete pull up banner unit, ready to use, set up in 30 seconds. We pre-check the recoil tension before pack, so the banner pulls straight at first deploy. If you reorder later, we already hold the file, the stock spec, and the cassette dimensions. Reprints are ready within hours. This is the answer most customers asking where to buy banner stands in London are really looking for, one supplier holding the spec.

Walk in to Mayfair (8 Avery Row) or Camden (23-27 King's Terrace). Bring a USB and we will check before we print.

Quick-win · Exhibition systems

Which pop-up display system fits my exhibition?

We stock 1×3, 2×3, 3×3 and 4×3 pop-up display systems, every size in both curved or straight, with the choice of fabric or magnetic graphic panels. All materials are B1 fire-rated for venue compliance at ExCeL, Olympia, BDC and QEII Centre. Order by 5pm for same-day in central London. Our in-house fitters install at the venue, we do not sub-contract. From £319.

Which size for which booth. 1×3 (one metre wide, three high) suits a single-bay table-top, a foyer corner, or a registration desk. 2×3 is the standard exhibition wing, good behind a desk or as a side wall. 3×3 is the working backbone of a six-square-metre exhibition stand. 4×3 covers an island booth wall or a feature backdrop. Curved frames pull the eye to centre, useful for product reveals. Straight frames work as continuous walls when you butt two or three together for a 6 or 9-metre run.

Materials, both options on the same frame. Fabric panels are dye-sub polyester, machine-washable, packed flat, magnetic-stand-friendly. The premium choice for fabric exhibition stands and high-end retail activations. Magnetic graphic panels are PVC-faced rigid backers, individually replaceable, the right pick when the brand changes faster than the frame budget. Both materials run on the same aluminium frame, so you can swap material across years on one stand.

What ships with each system. The aluminium frame, the graphic panels, the spotlights (LED, mains or battery), the wheeled transit case, and the spec sheet for any venue compliance team. Accessories run separately. Lit poster racks, brochure dispensers, display counters, and demo plinths all print from our Camden studio and ship with the stand. For matching point of sale advertising displays at the same event, see our point of sale displays page.

Install at the venue. Our crew installs at ExCeL, Olympia, BDC, QEII Centre, RHS Halls and OXO Tower. Same fitters every time, the ones who printed the job. We arrive with the stand, the graphics, the spec sheet, and a tool roll, and leave the booth ready for your team. No sub-contracting, no agency layer, no phone tag the morning of build day. This is the exhibition stand printing brief that most production managers want on one PO, and it is how every client running an exhibition booth, a product reveal, an awards-night, or a gala launch wins the morning.

Replacement graphic panels. If you already own a 1×3, 2×3, 3×3 or 4×3 frame from any reputable system, bring it in. We stock every standard panel size and the magnetic backers fit most aluminium frames built since around 2010. We also re-skin existing trade show displays, exhibition display panels, and pop up banners where the stand outlasts the brand. Reprint cost sits roughly half the price of a fresh system.

For exhibition graphics plus install on one PO, phone Camden on 020 7874 1900 to brief the production manager directly.

Specialist

Specialist roller-banner and pop-up display options

Three options outside the standard catalogue. Print-on-stand for exhibition booths you have already commissioned, weatherproof outdoor banners, and replacement panels for systems you already own.

For exhibition organisers and booth builders, we print the panels that fit your existing stand. You supply the frame drawings or the dimensions from your stand-builder. We print the wraps, fascias, header panels, plinth covers, exhibition signage, and any double-sided wing banners on the same B1 fire-rated stocks. Double-sided banners use a black-block interlayer so the rear graphic does not ghost through. We do not build booths from scratch, that is the stand-builder's job. We print everything that gets fixed to the booth, including pop up advertising panels for the floor, and our crew can install on the same call-out if your build slot allows. Phone Camden on 020 7874 1900 with the stand drawings.

Mesh is the only material that survives any open-air event in wind above the lightest breeze. We print on B1 fire-rated mesh in 300gsm and 440gsm, edge-eyeleted at 500mm spacing, supplied flat or with a cassette base. Use cases: marquee perimeter banners, launch-event hoarding, outdoor product reveals, charity-race finish lines, gala terraces. PVC outdoor banners in a March wind will not survive an hour. Tell us where it goes and we will spec the weight. For wider outdoor format see our large format printing options.

If you already own a roller banner cassette or a pop-up display frame, bring it in. The stand is reusable. We measure the inside dimension at the counter, print a new graphic on the same stock as the original, fit it to the cassette or panel, and return the complete unit ready to use. Costs sit roughly half the price of a new system. Quicker, lower-cost, and lower-waste than starting over.

Yes. Order by 5pm and your banner is ready from Mayfair or Camden the same afternoon. From £99. The cutoff covers single roller banners and graphic-only replacements on standard PVC or fabric. Walk-in collection, same-day London courier, or in-house install at central-London venues all available.

5pm is the same-day cutoff, three hours later than the London industry standard. That covers a clean file with at most one round of revisions. New frame builds, fabric panels needing an overnight cure, and multi-revision jobs ship next-day instead.

We stock 800, 850, 1000, 1200, 1500 and 2000mm widths, all 2000mm tall as standard. For a single-person stand pick 850mm. For an exhibition wall pick 1200mm or wider. Anything over 1200mm prints from Camden where the wide-roll Epson SureColor lives.

Yes. Our in-house designers draft your banner from a brief, then run a strip proof on the same stock as the full print before we commit. Email post@cityimages.co.uk with the brief, the logo, the brand colours, and the copy. Custom banners and full identity layouts welcome.

Close, not identical. We convert RGB to CMYK on our own ICC profile, honour Pantone references to under 2 dE, and offer a strip proof on the actual stock if exact match matters. Screen-to-print drift is roughly 5 to 10 percent at the deepest blues and reds, and we flag it before we print.

Both. Walk-in collection from 8 Avery Row in Mayfair W1 or 23-27 King's Terrace in Camden NW1, same-day London courier quoted per drop, or our in-house crew installs at the venue. Collection is free. Courier and install are priced per job. This is the closest banner printing near me option for most of central London.

From £99 for a standard pull up banner including the printed graphic, the cassette base, the top-clip rail, and a padded carry case. Pop up display systems from £319 for a 1×3 with magnetic panels and an LED spot. Other specs and banner printing London jobs quoted per project.

Yes. Our own fitters install at ExCeL, Olympia, BDC, QEII Centre, RHS Halls, and OXO Tower. No sub-contracting. The crew arrive with the printed stand, build, dress, and leave the booth ready. Phone Camden on 020 7874 1900 to brief the production manager.

Yes. We carry every standard 1×3, 2×3, 3×3, and 4×3 frame. Bring your existing stand and we will print, cut, and fit replacement graphic panels at roughly half the price of a fresh system. Standard panel sizes available same-day, custom dimensions next-day.

PVC roller banners and indoor pull up banners are sheltered-outdoor only. For open-air or marquee use we print on mesh. Wind passes through the weave, the banner stays standing, and the print survives a day of light rain. Tell us the venue and we will spec the right material.

A pop up display is a modular wall of fabric or magnetic panels on a folding aluminium frame, scaling from 1×3 to 4×3 metres, that forms the backdrop of an exhibition stand or trade show display.

The £99 includes the printed graphic, the cassette base, the top-clip rail, and a padded carry case. Same-day London courier is quoted on top. Collection from Mayfair or Camden is free. Pop-up displays from £319 include the frame, the panels, one LED spot, and a wheeled transit case.
