About us
Counter activations, FSDUs, totems and rollouts, all built in-house.
City Images, Mayfair and Camden since 1985

We built the Lalique butterfly wall, the Molton Brown showroom plinth, and the Selfridges fragrance counter display. Bespoke point of sale printing and POS display design that gets installed correctly and lasts the campaign.

FSDUs and free standing display units for supermarket rollouts. Strut cards, shelf talkers and counter displays for beauty and fragrance. Dump bin displays for high-volume retail. Mayfair W1K for briefings, Camden NW1 for production on our Ricoh C7500 and Arizona UV flatbed.

Retail point of sale printing that ships, fits and lasts the run. No call centre. No agency layer. No sub-contracting. Counter card to multi-site rollout, the same hands engineer and install it.

Counter activation · For beauty & fragrance brands

Counter Display Units and Countertop POS

For the counter-activation marketing manager at a beauty, fragrance or luxury brand: the brief usually arrives with a hero product, a four-week run on a department-store counter (Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Liberty, Harrods), and a colour profile that has to match the lipstick on the campaign asset. We produce printed counter cards, strut cards (A5, A4, A3), card struts, shelf talkers, strut-back counters, tiered tester stands, perfume blotter holders, jewellery presentation trays, and tablet-mount counter units for digital activation. Point of sale printing runs through the Ricoh C7500 for full-colour or specialty-toner finishes.

Habitat tradeshow FSDU and exhibition build, structural display printed and assembled by City Images London

Tradeshow buildHabitat exhibition stand

Modular tradeshow FSDU for a retail-launch activation. Aluminium frame, dye-sublimation fabric panel, packed flat and assembled at the venue by our own crew.

Standard substrates are 350gsm SBS board for printed wraps over greyboard, 3mm foamex for lightweight rigid units, and clear acrylic for premium retail point of sale where the product is the focus and the display frames it. Counter display printing runs through the Ricoh C7500 for full-colour or specialty-toner finishes, with foil-stamping, soft-touch lamination or spot UV applied in-house before assembly.

Same-day production is available on standard counter card and strut-back specifications when files land by midday. For showcards and tent cards see our showcards page. For foil-stamped premium counter work see our foil printing and embossing page.

Substrates

Which substrate should I choose?

SBS board for premium counter wraps, foamex for lightweight rigid FSDUs, dibond and acrylic for heavyweight plinths and long-life retail. The wrong pick causes structural failure or premium-look failure. We ask what the display has to do before quoting.

Printed rose plinth showroom display, structural wrap and finishing by City Images London
  • 350gsm SBS board printed and wrapped over greyboard for premium counter units, presentation pieces and luxury POS. E-flute and B-flute corrugated for shipping-grade FSDUs, dump bins, and high-volume retail rollouts. Corrugated FSDUs ship flat-packed and assemble without tools, the right call where store staff put the unit together.

  • 3mm to 10mm foamex is lightweight rigid PVC for counter displays, totems and short-to-medium campaign FSDUs. UV-printed direct on the Arizona flatbed for full-bleed colour with no laminate seam. Correx is the same lightweight rigid family for sheltered outdoor and short-life POS. Foamex outdoors in sustained wind will fail. For exhibition exposure use dibond.

  • 3mm and 4mm dibond aluminium composite for heavyweight plinths, long-life FSDUs and outdoor-rated displays. Clear, frosted and coloured acrylic (3mm to 10mm) for premium freestanding displays and product-frame units. 18mm MDF structural cores for plinths, pedestals and permanent shop fittings. B1 fire-rated stock available for venue compliance at ExCeL, Olympia, BDC and QEII Centre.

Multi-site rollout · For retail ops leads

Can you roll out identical POS across a chain of stores?

For the retail ops lead responsible for a chain of stores receiving identical POS at the same time: shipping logistics, store-team assembly consistency and install survival are what break the brief. We engineer flat-pack builds with numbered components, printed assembly instructions, and a support line for the store team. The pilot store goes first to catch the problems a prototype cannot.

Flat-pack engineered for the store team

A display that takes 45 minutes to build in-store does not get built. We number every component, print the assembly instructions, and pilot the assembly sequence with a single store team before scaling. The pilot catches the problems screen proofs miss.

One supplier, one PO, one colour profile

Structural CAD, print production, packing, logistics, installation and post-install photography all run from one team, one schedule, one point of contact. One colour profile across every site, no round-tripping between three printers calibrated to three different ICC profiles.

Direct install or shipped flat-pack

For multi-site rollouts the team either installs directly or ships flat-pack with the assembly sequence already piloted. Same fitters every time, the ones who engineered the build. No sub-contracting, no agency layer, no phone tag the morning of build day.

FSDU formats

Free-Standing Display Units (FSDUs)

For the FSDU brand manager rolling out to a multiple retailer: free standing display units are the workhorse of retail point of sale. We engineer FSDUs and dump bins for supermarket aisle ends, pharmacy gondolas, department-store floor space and shop-in-shop fixtures, sized to the product and the floor footprint available.

  • Corrugated FSDUs ship flat-packed and assemble without tools, the right call for high-volume rollouts where store staff put the unit together. The workhorse of FMCG retail.

  • Foamex FSDUs carry heavier weight loads for premium product launches and stay on the floor for longer campaign windows. UV-printed direct, no laminate seam.

  • Dibond FSDUs are aluminium composite for heavyweight builds, long-life campaigns, and outdoor-rated work. The pick when the unit needs to outlast the season.

  • Dump bins are the high-volume cousin: corrugated, printed full colour, designed to be filled with product and walked past at speed. Supermarket aisle ends and pharmacy gondolas.

  • MDF plinths wrapped in printed paper, foiled, debossed or fabric-finished. Lifts the product from the floor and stages it as a sculptural object. Hand-built one-offs for luxury showroom and pop-up.

  • Totems in dibond, MDF and acrylic for fragrance launches, watch displays, fashion accessory presentation and limited-edition product reveals. Each format gets its own structural CAD and physical sample before production.

Luxury showroom · Lalique, Molton Brown, Chloe

Totems and Luxury Showroom Plinths

For the visual merchandising lead at a luxury house (Lalique, Molton Brown, Chloe, Habitat-grade installations): cardboard does not enter the conversation. Totems, plinths and pedestals work where the product needs to be presented at eye level, lifted from the floor, or staged as a sculptural object in a showroom or pop-up. Hand-built one-offs are the standard route here.

Lalique butterfly wall installation, hundreds of CNC die-cut red card and gold mirror foil butterflies hand-pinned by City Images London

The Lalique butterfly wall in our portfolio is the test case: hundreds of CNC die-cut red card and gold mirror foil butterflies, hand-pinned into a three-dimensional installation. Each format gets its own structural CAD and a physical sample before production. Our own fitters install, so the people who engineered the build are the people placing it.

Brand managers and agency producers come to us when a previous supplier shipped POS that did not assemble cleanly, did not survive transit, or did not match the visual that got signed off. Every build starts with structural CAD and a physical prototype. That step catches problems screen proofs cannot. For matching premium foiling and embossing on counter pieces, one PO covers it.

Walk in to Mayfair (8 Avery Row) to see board samples, foil swatches and finishing references at the counter.

Exhibition · Pop-up builds for fixed-date events

Exhibition and Pop-Up Display Builds

For the exhibition or event marketer working to a fixed install date: pop-up display stands, modular exhibition stands, fabric tension systems and full custom booth builds all run from the same Camden production team that handles retail POS. Where the venue requires a fire certificate, we specify B1 fire-rated materials and supply the certification documentation with the job.

For brands running an exhibition stand alongside retail POS for the same campaign, one supplier means one colour profile, one delivery window, no round-tripping between three printers calibrated to three different ICC profiles.

Pop-up display stands, modular exhibition stands, fabric tension systems and full custom booth builds. Dye-sublimation printed fabric panels stretch over aluminium tension frames, pack into a carry case, and assemble in twenty minutes. Modular systems scale from a one-day conference booth through three-metre stand builds for the major London venues.

Where the venue requires a fire certificate, we specify B1 fire-rated materials and supply the certification documentation with the job. Covers ExCeL, Olympia, BDC and QEII Centre venue compliance for fabric, board, foamex and dibond. Production manager confirms certification with your venue compliance team before the job ships.

For brands running an exhibition stand alongside retail POS for the same campaign, one supplier means one colour profile, one delivery window, no round-tripping between three printers calibrated to three different ICC profiles. The same Camden production team handles the stand, the counter activations, the FSDU rollout and the window graphics. For matching roller banners and pop-up displays for the same brief, one PO covers it.

Install at the venue. Our crew installs at ExCeL, Olympia, BDC, QEII Centre, RHS Halls and OXO Tower. Same fitters every time, the ones who printed the job. We arrive with the stand, the graphics, the spec sheet, and a tool roll, and leave the booth ready for your team. No sub-contracting, no agency layer, no phone tag the morning of build day.

Every print and finish process runs under one roof: Ricoh C7500 digital press with metallic, neon, holographic and clear gloss toner heads for short and medium runs on board and paper; Arizona UV flatbed for direct print on rigid substrates up to 50mm thick; hot foil-stamping and digital foil in gold, silver, copper, rose gold, and custom Pantone foils for monograms, logo lift, and luxury brand cues. Emboss, deboss, soft-touch lamination, spot UV, edge-painting, CNC contour-cutting. Full Pantone matching across every process.

FSDU stands for Free Standing Display Unit, a floor-standing branded retail display typically made from corrugated cardboard, foamex, dibond or MDF. FSDUs are used in supermarkets, pharmacies, department stores and shop-in-shop fixtures to present products at the point of sale. We design and build custom FSDUs from our Mayfair and Camden studios.

A point of sale display is any printed visual merchandising fixture designed to attract attention and drive purchases in a retail environment. Common types include counter display units, FSDUs, totems, plinths, dump bins, shelf wobblers and tent cards. A POS display has about three seconds to do its job at the shelf, so structural engineering and print quality both matter.

There is no minimum. A single hand-built unit for a flagship location runs through a different production route to a 500-unit rollout, but both are within scope. What matters is the specification, not the quantity. Setup cost covers the CAD, prototype and tooling; production runs at standard rates once that work is done.

Pricing is driven by structural complexity, quantity, substrate choice and finish. A printed strut card is a different job to an engineered FSDU. Send a specification or talk us through the brief and we will come back with a breakdown, usually the same day.

Standard printed counter POS, strut cards, tent cards, counter cards and printed panels turns around same day or one to three working days. Larger builds involving structural CAD, prototyping or specialist substrates typically take one to two weeks. Multi-site rollouts of 50 to 500 units run on a four to six week schedule with the pilot store going first.

Yes. We engineer flat-pack configurations with numbered components, printed assembly instructions and a phone line for the store team. The shipping volume we have run is multi-site rollouts of identical units across the UK in a single delivery week. Pilot store first, then rollout.

Yes. Our in-house team includes 2D and 3D designers handling structural CAD, dieline drawing and graphic design from a brief, a rough sketch or a conversation. No outsourcing.

Yes. Our in-house fitting team covers London, the UK and the EU. Wall-mounted, freestanding, ceiling-suspended and window-fitted installs are handled by the same people who engineered the build. For sites outside the EU we ship with full installation instructions.

POS (point of sale) traditionally refers to displays at or near the checkout area. POP (point of purchase) covers displays anywhere in the retail environment designed to influence the buying decision. In practice the terms are used interchangeably. We produce both.

A strut card is a counter-top display card with a fold-out cardboard strut on the back, used in retail, hospitality and corporate reception areas to stand a printed message upright without taking shelf depth. Standard sizes are A5, A4 and A3, printed full colour on 350-450gsm board with optional lamination, foil or spot UV. We print and finish strut cards in-house at Camden.

A shelf talker is a printed promotional card that sits on or hangs from the front edge of a retail shelf, calling attention to a product or offer. Shelf talkers are typically 300-350gsm coated board, full colour both sides, die-cut to slot or clip into the shelf-edge rail. We produce shelf talkers in short runs and multi-site rollouts from our Camden studio.

Yes.
