About us
The card that gets kept in the wallet is the one printed on stock you handled first.
City Images, Mayfair and Camden since 1985

Two London studios. Three generations. A working stock bar at Mayfair with Colorplan, GF Smith, Mohawk Superfine, Fedrigoni and Conqueror laid out by weight, so the decision happens in the hand before the press, not after.

Digital up to 550gsm Colorplan on a single sheet, 600gsm+ via glue duplex overnight. Hot foil, blind emboss, edge paint, spot UV and digital metallic, neon, clear and touch toner finishes, all in-house at Camden.

Agency teams pitching the next morning get one named contact, artwork held on file over 10 years, and reprints from the stored spec in hours. No call centre, no agency layer, no sub-contracted finishing.

The decision in the hand · Stock by feel

Premium paper stock from 300gsm to 550gsm

Most online printers cap at 350gsm or 400gsm. We print digitally on single sheets up to 550gsm, and run 600gsm and above through overnight glue duplexing, two sheets bonded for a card with genuine weight in the hand and a different colour or stock on each side.

The working weight ladderFrom silk to Colorplan

300gsm silk: the working professional default, prints both sides cleanly without show-through. 350 to 400gsm: noticeable weight in the hand without changing the price bracket. 450gsm cotton: the letterpress and deep-emboss weight, soft to the touch with a writable surface. 550gsm Colorplan: premium territory, thick enough that the card sits upright in the wallet.

The Mayfair + Camden stock barSix named stocks on the counter

Both studios run a working stock bar with named stocks held in central London: Colorplan, GF Smith Naturalis, Mohawk Superfine, Fedrigoni Materica, Conqueror Wove and Conqueror Laid, plus textured, laid and coloured-core options. Walk in, handle the stock against your printed proof, pick the weight and finish at the counter. The decision happens in the hand, not on a screen.

Online printers cannot match this. Their stock list is a dropdown and every sample arrives a week after the order. Bring a brand book to 8 Avery Row, Mayfair or 23-27 King's Terrace, Camden and we will spec the duplex in front of you.

For matching corporate stationery on the same stocks see our printed stationery page.

Finishes

Foil, embossing, spot UV and digital special finishes

A 300gsm silk card does the job. A hot-foil-stamped, blind-embossed card on 550gsm Colorplan is the one that gets kept. Every order is a custom job: stock, weight, finish, size, shape, colour, coating, all specified by you, all produced in central London.

  • Hot foil in gold, silver, copper, rose gold and any custom Pantone, pressed at temperature for a metal sheen that does not flake. Blind emboss and deboss for tactile depth pressed into the stock without ink, the choice for architecture practices and galleries who want the logo felt before it is seen. Edge painting in any Pantone shade, brushed onto the trim after the cut. For technique detail see our foil printing and embossing page.

  • Spot UV for selective gloss raised against a matt base. Soft touch, gloss and matt lamination, plus thermographic raised-ink for a letterpress feel.

  • Digital special finishes most printers cannot offer. Metallic toner for a brushed-metal sheen across the card or isolated to a logo. No plates, no setup, no minimums. Neon toner for fluorescent highlights that read under cold light. Clear toner for a gloss-on-gloss texture you barely see and definitely feel. Touch toner for raised tactile spots on a logo or initial. All produced digitally, so runs go from a small batch to several thousand without a setup cost. Every finish at our studios. No agency layer, no third-party press.

What runs same day

Unlaminated cards on 300 to 400gsm silk, uncoated or laid, single or double sided, run cleanest. Soft touch, gloss and matt lamination ship same day if the file lands early enough for the laminator setup. Hot foil same day depends on what is already on the foiling press at Camden, which takes one job at a time.

What ships next day instead

Heavyweight duplex blocks (600gsm+ glued overnight), edge-painted runs needing a paint cure, and any job needing a second proof.

Collection, courier, or delivery

Next-morning tracked UK delivery and same-day courier across London are bookable on top, quoted per drop. International covers 99% of the EU. Walk in to 8 Avery Row in Mayfair or 23-27 King's Terrace in Camden.

Sizes

Business card sizes: UK, US, EU, square, folded and custom

The UK standard is 85 x 55mm, the same footprint as a credit card. We also print US standard, European, square, folded, mini and fully custom dimensions, with die-cutting to any shape, cut to the millimetre.

  • The UK standard, same footprint as a credit card. Sometimes called a visiting card or a name card.

  • Slightly wider, slightly shorter than the UK card. Specified by clients with US-based brand teams or US head offices.

  • The EU working default. A whisker wider and shorter than the UK card. Run on the same digital press, same stocks, same finishes.

  • Square at mini (55 x 55mm) or full UK card height (85 x 85mm). Reads as a statement piece and pairs well with edge-painted Pantone trim.

  • Folded flat at 85 x 110mm and creased back to the UK 85 x 55mm footprint. Works where the brief asks for something memorable, with room for a service list or QR field on the inside.

  • Half-height mini at 70 x 28mm. Contemporary creative pick for photographers, illustrators and event planners who want the shape itself to read as deliberate.

  • Cut to any dimension, die-cut to any non-rectangular shape, cut to the millimetre at Camden. Bring a sketch, a CAD file or a sample and we will spec the cutting form in front of you.

Bleed is 3mm on every edge, safe area 5mm inside the trim. Double sided as standard at no extra charge. Die-cutting to any non-rectangular shape, cut to the millimetre at Camden.

Sometimes called a visiting card or a name card, the 85 x 55mm format has held for decades because it fits the wallet, the cardholder and the desk drawer. Custom shapes and folded formats work where the brief asks for something memorable.

Artwork, in-house design and instant reorder

Three things every buyer wants answered. Whether we will fix the file, whether we will design the card from scratch, and how fast the reprint comes when nothing has changed.

1

Artwork fixing as standard

Bleed, RGB to CMYK, low-res logos, fonts not outlined. Routine fixes included, no charge.

2

In-house design from brief

Logo to print-ready file. Layout, hierarchy, proof on the actual stock. QR codes built in.

3

Instant reorders & variable data

Files held over 10 years. Reprints in hours. Variable data per card for sales floors.

Bespoke pink letterpress business card for a Wimpole Street dental practice designed in-house at City Images

Artwork fixing as standard. Roughly half of files that arrive need work. Wrong bleed, RGB instead of CMYK, low-resolution logos, fonts not outlined, hairlines too fine to print. Most online printers reject the file with an error code. We fix it, send a corrected proof, and only print after you sign off. No charge on routine adjustments. PDF at 300dpi with 3mm bleed is preferred, but we accept AI, EPS, INDD, PSD and TIFF.

In-house design from brief. No artwork at all? Our in-house design team builds the card from brief to print-ready file. Send your logo, brand colours, job titles and copy, and we set the layout, draft the typographic hierarchy, run a digital proof on the actual stock, and only commit to the run once you sign off. QR codes linking to a portfolio, a LinkedIn profile, a vCard download or a digital menu are part of the layout, not bolted on after.

Instant reorders, variable data, account printing. Artwork files, stock specs, finish specs and foil colours stay on the system for over ten years. Reprints pull the original file and ship in hours without a re-quote. Personalised runs with variable data (name, title, mobile per card) for a whole sales floor print on the same press in a single run. Matching letterheads and compliment slips alongside, see printed stationery.

Walk in to Mayfair (8 Avery Row) or Camden (23-27 King's Terrace). Bring a USB and we will check before we print.

The UK standard is 85 x 55mm, the same proportions as a credit card. Sometimes called a visiting card or a name card. The US standard is 89 x 51mm and the European is 90 x 50mm. We also print square (55 x 55mm or 85 x 85mm), folded, mini and fully custom dimensions cut to any specification. Die-cutting available at Camden for non-rectangular shapes.

300gsm silk is the working professional default: smooth, prints both sides cleanly, takes colour well. 350 to 400gsm adds noticeable weight in the hand. 450gsm cotton is the letterpress and deep-emboss weight. 550gsm Colorplan is premium territory, the card that sits upright in the wallet and gets remarked on. Walk into Mayfair or Camden and handle the stock bar before you commit.

Yes. Send print-ready artwork to post@cityimages.co.uk or walk in with a USB, and collect the same afternoon from Mayfair W1 or Camden NW1. Two to three hours on standard stocks for runs up to 5,000 cards. Lamination clears same day if the file arrives early enough. Hot foil same day depends on the foiling press schedule, and we will tell you straight when you order.

Pricing depends on stock, finish, quantity and turnaround. Standard 300 to 400gsm silk is the most affordable starting point. Premium stocks, foiling, embossing, edge painting and digital metallic finishes are quoted per project because every job is different. Email your spec to post@cityimages.co.uk and quotes return within minutes. Printing is zero-rated for VAT in the UK, so the quoted price is the price you pay.

Yes. Both studios run a working stock bar with Colorplan, GF Smith, Mohawk, Fedrigoni and Conqueror laid out by weight from 300gsm silk through to 550gsm Colorplan. Walk in, handle the stock against your printed proof, pick the weight and finish at the counter. This is the answer most customers asking where to buy luxury cards in London are looking for: the decision in the hand before the press.

No. Our in-house design team builds the card from brief to print-ready file: logo, brand colours, job titles, copy, all set into the layout with proper typographic hierarchy and a digital proof on the actual stock. We also fix existing artwork as standard. File checks are free. PDF at 300dpi preferred but we accept any format.

Hot foil in any colour, blind emboss and deboss, spot UV, soft touch and gloss lamination, edge painting in any Pantone, thermographic raised ink. Plus the digital finishes most printers cannot offer: metallic, neon, clear and touch toner. Every finish at both studios with no minimum on digital work. See foil printing and embossing for the full range.

Yes. Around 12% of physical cards lead to a follow-up versus an average 2.3% conversion on a first online interaction, and 86% of professionals still carry them. QR codes bridging the physical card to a vCard download or a portfolio now appear on over a third of cards we print. The physical handover creates a moment a LinkedIn request does not.

Files stay on the system for over ten years. Reprints pull the original artwork, run on the original stock with the original finish, and ship within hours when nothing has changed. Send updated details and the reprint turns around just as fast. No new setup, no re-quoting, no second proof unless the design has shifted.

Yes. 90% of our paper comes from FSC-approved suppliers including Colorplan, GF Smith, Mohawk and Fedrigoni. Digital printing uses no plates and produces virtually zero setup waste. City Images is committed to carbon neutral operations by 2029 and recycles every offcut, reel core and trim through FirstMile.
