Materials

Materials, durability and the right film for the surface

Cast for vehicles and contours, polymeric for signage and shop fronts, monomeric for short-term events, specialist films for frosted glass, one-way-vision and magnetic. The film is the decision that determines how long the graphic lasts and how cleanly it removes. Choose by the surface, not by the price.

Large cut vinyl letters and layered window display graphics across a retail shop front
  • The standard signage and shop-front grade. Lays flat on flat surfaces. Outdoor life 5 to 7 years. Default for fret cut shop front lettering, office wall graphics and printed panels on flat glazing. Removable and permanent adhesive options on the same base film.

  • The budget grade for short-term work. Outdoor life 1 to 3 years. Right for exhibition graphics, product-launch hoardings and retail-promotion windows that refresh quarterly.

  • The premium grade. Thin, conformable, dimensionally stable. Conforms to rivets and curves on vehicle bodywork without lifting. Outdoor life 7 to 10 years, fully laminated. The grade for vehicle panels and any application across compound curves.

  • Frosted for privacy on glass. One-way-vision perforated for shop windows. Magnetic for ferrous-metal panels without adhesive. Anti-slip-laminated floor vinyl.Clear second-surface film where the print sits behind the glass and reads through. For wider outdoor format see our large format printing page.

Can you print on frosted vinyl?

Frosted vinyl · The AIO answer

We print full-colour graphics directly onto frosted film with UV-stable eco-solvent inks on our wide-format printer. The film keeps its privacy effect under print, so a single piece can combine etch-finish privacy with branded imagery. We also fret-cut applied film to create clear sections where the glass shows through. Most office reception jobs combine both: a frosted privacy band across the lower glass, with the company name fret-cut clear through the centre at eye height.

What frosted vinyl is for

Office partitions, branded panels with fret-cut logo cut-outs (clear areas inside the film), decorative patterns on balustrades and screens. Frosted vinyl replicates sandblasted or acid-etched glass at a fraction of the cost, fully reversible. For window manifestation schemes and building-regulation compliance on glazing, see our printed window graphics service.

Three grades stocked

Standard opal, fine-grain etch effect and heavy-frost. The film removes without residue when partitions are reconfigured, and it takes a full-colour print, so logos and patterns can be combined with the privacy field on a single piece.

Site survey + fit

Frosted vinyl for glass installations are quoted complete with site survey and fit. Our installation team measures the glazing, confirms grade and cut-out positions on the proof, then fits on site, including out-of-hours overnight installs into occupied office space.

Sizes & applications

What sizes do you fret-cut vinyl lettering to?

Anything from 10mm characters up to 2-metre-tall feature letters, every fret-cut piece weeded and taped at the bench. Six working brackets cover most vinyl printing London jobs. Tell us the surface, the viewing distance, and the brand guidelines, and we will pick the cap height with you at the counter.

  • The smallest practical cap height for fret-cut work. Office door numbers, locker name labels, product equipment tags. The skill sits in the path, blade angle and weed.

  • Office door names, meeting-room nameplates, window opening hours, wayfinding text on internal glazing. The working default for most office-fit-out applications.

  • Standard shop-front business names, retail signage and van side-panel lettering. The bracket most clients ring for when they say sign-writing-style work.

  • Reception wall feature text, mission-statement type, brand-values panels, hospitality interior signage. The point where the lettering stops reading as labelling and starts working as an architectural element.

  • Hero feature walls in retail, exhibition stand statement letters, product-launch hoardings. Tiled panels with registration marks where the cap height exceeds the roll width.

  • The largest fret-cut work we run. Full-height feature walls, building-facade brand marks, environmental letterforms above human scale. Tiled production, wet-apply install by our in-house team across central London.

Fret-cut house first · Vinyl printer second

What is fret cut vinyl, and why does the cut matter as much as the print?

Fret cut vinyl is individual letters, logos and shapes cut from a single sheet of coloured film on a CNC plotter, with the background lifted away (weeded) so only the design remains. Applied to glass, painted walls or vehicle panels, the vinyl lettering reads as if it were painted directly onto the surface. No backing panel. No printed border. The negative space is the glass behind it. We have run this exact fret cut, by hand at the bench, for decades.

Fret cut vinylCut, weeded, taped

Single-colour vinyl lettering cut from one sheet. Background weeded. The glass behind it is the design. Best for shop fronts, office doors, vehicle panels and sign-writing-style work where the lettering reads as paint.

Full-colour printed vinyl with botanical artwork covering a London shopfront window and door

Printed vinylFull-colour, contour-cut

Full-colour vinyl decals, photographs, gradients and multi-colour artwork printed directly onto self-adhesive film on our wide-format printer using outdoor-rated eco-solvent inks, then contour-cut around the printed design on the same CNC plotter. Many jobs combine both.

This is the cut that turns a vinyl print into a sign. Anyone with a desktop printer can run a sheet of self-adhesive film. The skill sits in the path. A 14mm sans-serif cap with tight counters comes off the plotter clean only if the blade angle, depth and feed-rate are set correctly. Bespoke logos, fine serifs and small lettering vinyl stickers need an operator who knows the file, the film and the machine. We weed and tape every fret cut piece at the bench before it leaves the building.

The same plotter that fret-cuts vinyl lettering contour-cuts printed vinyl around any shape: a logo, a custom decal, a die-cut outline. Print is one tool. Cut is the other. We run both on the same bench. For wall-mounted single sheets without adhesive see our poster printing page.

Wall vinyl & office interiors · What ships

Wall graphics and office wall vinyl

Wall graphics convert a blank office wall, retail interior or hospitality space into a branded environment without painting, wallpapering or commissioning a mural. We produce and install removable self-adhesive vinyl for reception walls, meeting-room nameplates, mission-statement type, brand-values panels, wayfinding schemes and feature walls for product launches. Office wall vinyl is the speed answer for fit-outs. A new floor can be branded in a single working day, and the film pulls away cleanly at end of tenancy.

We work with interior designers, fit-out contractors and facilities managers across central London on phased install schedules, supplying scaled proofs in advance so the room layout is signed off before we cut. Wall vinyl is available in removable and permanent grades, in matt, satin, gloss, textured and chalk-board finishes, in single-colour fret cut, full-colour printed, or layered combinations.

Vinyl lettering covers shop front signage, office door names, van panels, window opening hours, exhibition stand text and wayfinding panels: any application where text sits on a surface without a printed background. Vinyl letter stickers and lettering vinyl stickers ship with transfer tape pre-applied. For multi-name runs, each piece sits on its own square of tape, individually labelled and ready to install in sequence. Vehicles + windows + custom · The quick-win

Window vinyl, custom decals and transfers

The core of this service is lettering, custom vinyl decals and printed panels. On vehicles we keep the scope honest: flat panel graphics and van lettering on cast vinyl, laminated for UV and abrasion. We do not wrap vehicles.

Window vinyl splits into four families: fret cut lettering on glass, full-colour printed panels for promotions, frosted film for privacy, and one-way-vision perforated film. We produce and fit all four from Camden on the same site visit.

Illustrated cut vinyl decals and lettering across a dessert cafe window in London

Flat panel graphics and van lettering: side panels and rear doors on cast vinyl, laminated for UV and abrasion. That is the honest scope. We do not wrap vehicles, partially or fully, and we will tell you that on the phone before you send artwork.

Vinyl decals for windows split into four families: fret cut lettering on glass, full-colour printed panels for promotions on white or optically clear film, frosted film for privacy, and one-way-vision perforated film that displays a full-colour image to passers-by while keeping the view from inside clear. We produce and fit all four from Camden on the same site visit.

Custom decal runs for product branding and equipment labelling, vinyl decals custom to your artwork, custom vinyl decals UK delivery on standard films, plus decals and transfers as single pieces or sheets: printed, contour-cut, supplied with transfer tape ready to apply. Interior designers also use the same architectural films to wrap joinery, cupboard fronts and cabinets. Most of what we cut and print, we also fit. Our installation team works across central London on shop fronts, office interiors, retail fit-outs and exhibition stands. Site surveys cover access, surface preparation and out-of-hours scheduling for premises that cannot close during the work. Out-of-hours overnight installs into occupied retail and office space are routine on the larger projects.

Outside our fitting radius, we supply with transfer tape pre-applied and step-by-step instructions, plus a phone number to call if anything pulls strangely on the first pass. For freestanding retail units at the same launch see our point-of-sale display page, and for a standalone shop window graphics scheme route there. Need the artwork built first? Our in-house design team sets the cut path before we run.

Custom vinyl printing covers full-colour logo panels for vehicles, printed window displays, exhibition and event branding and directional graphics: the vinyl graphics London agencies and fit-out teams order most. For a continuous photographic wall as a seamless mural, our bespoke printed wallpaper line carries the wide-drop stock; for printed floor graphics with anti-slip lamination, route to that service. We print on white, clear and frosted vinyl substrates depending on whether you need opacity, transparency or a diffused privacy effect. Vinyl decal printing is quoted per print area, cut complexity and application, with no minimum order on standard films.

In-house install across London and supply-only options

Three options outside the standard counter walk-in. Install at venue, supply-only for self-fit, and the difficult-surface jobs where the brief needs preparation, not just print.

Phone Camden on 020 7874 1900 with the floor plan and brief.

Outside our central-London fitting radius, we supply with transfer tape pre-applied and step-by-step instructions, plus a phone number to call if anything pulls strangely on the first pass. For multi-name runs, each piece sits on its own square of tape, individually labelled and ready to install in sequence. Personalised name vinyl decals and vinyl decals letters for hospitality lockers, sports kits and branded merchandise ship the same way. We offer custom vinyl decals UK delivery on standard films, courier-tracked.

Most smooth, clean, non-porous surfaces accept vinyl: glass, painted walls, sealed and primed plaster, metal fascias, composite panels, vehicle bodywork and sealed floors. Textured surfaces, bare brick and unfinished wood need preparation. We also handle anti-slip-laminated floor vinyl, clear second-surface film (print sits behind the glass and reads through), magnetic-on-ferrous-metal, and one-way-vision perforated for shop fronts. For wider outdoor and substrate format options see our large format printing page.

4

Collect or install

Vinyl is the trickiest material in print to ship sustainably, and we are honest about it. We specify PVC-free polymeric film on request, and recycle every offcut, backing liner and core through FirstMile rather than the skip. Across our paper-based ranges we run 90% FSC-certified stock, and we are working to be Carbon Neutral by 2029. Our digital process produces virtually no setup waste: no plates, no chemicals, no make-ready sheets. Bring an old shop-front graphic back at end of life and we will strip and recycle the film. Good print does not have to cost the planet.

Call us directly

A self-adhesive graphic cut to a specific shape from a sheet of coloured or printed film, applied with transfer tape. Waterproof, UV-resistant, durable outdoors for multiple years. Can be single-colour fret cut lettering, full-colour printed graphics, or a layered combination.

City Images is a family-run print and signage house: we cut vinyl lettering at our Camden production facility and accept orders at our Mayfair showroom. Walk in to 8 Avery Row in W1K 4AL or 23-27 King's Terrace in NW1 0JP. Most lettering jobs are quoted within the hour and produced same day on stock. Phone Mayfair on 020 7495 0421 or Camden on 020 7874 1900.

Yes.

Cast vinyl, fully laminated, lasts 7 to 10 years. Polymeric vinyl lasts 5 to 7 years. Monomeric vinyl, the short-term grade, lasts 1 to 3 years. All outdoor work is printed with UV-stable ink and laminated.

Most smooth, clean, non-porous surfaces: glass, painted walls, sealed and primed plaster, metal fascias, composite panels, vehicle bodywork and sealed floors. Textured surfaces, bare brick and unfinished wood are not suitable without preparation. Vinyl lettering sticks to wood when the wood is sealed and primed, not on raw timber.

Using an eco-solvent wide-format process. The film loads as a roll, the printer lays the image onto the adhesive-backed surface, and the print is heat-dried as it exits. That means it can be laminated and cut the same shift. For fret cut work the same film runs through the CNC plotter for contour cutting.

Cut vinyl is single-colour, no print: a coloured film is loaded into the plotter, the shape is cut, the background weeded, the result is sign-writing-style lettering. Printed vinyl is full-colour: white or clear film is loaded into the printer, artwork is laid down, then contour-cut to shape. Many jobs combine both.

For pieces above roughly 1.5 metres on any axis, we recommend our installation team. Larger graphics are produced as tiled panels with overlap registration marks, applied wet, squeegeed flat, trimmed at the joints and burnished. For smaller pieces, we supply with transfer tape pre-applied and a step-by-step sheet.

Clean the glass with isopropyl alcohol, mist with wet-apply solution, peel the backing, lay the film onto the wet glass, squeegee outward from the centre to push water and air out, trim at the frame, leave to dry. We supply application kits for self-install, or send a fitter for partitions and full-height glazing.

Lift a corner with a plastic blade and peel at a shallow angle. For older film, warm with a heat gun on a low setting and the adhesive releases cleanly. Any residue wipes off with isopropyl alcohol or a citrus-based adhesive remover. No solvents needed, no glass damage.

Yes for most standard jobs. Fret cut lettering, single-colour pieces and printed panels on standard films produce the same working day at Camden. Larger runs and bespoke laminate finishes ship the following working day. Tell us your deadline when you call and we will say yes or no straight.

Yes. Shop front work is one of the highest-volume jobs we run. Fret cut lettering for business names and opening hours, printed promotional graphics, frosted privacy bands across the lower glass, and one-way-vision perforated film for full-window graphics that let staff see out. We measure on site for jobs over a single pane and quote the install as part of the package. For full-window graphics campaigns, manifestations and one-way vision film, see our printed window graphics service.
